Prep roundup: Harris shines for Warriors

Sterling volleyball cruises, as does Golden Warriors girls tennis

Kiarra Harris put down six blocks and five kills to lead Sterling past United Township 25-12, 25-11 in a nonconference volleyball clash at Musgrove Fieldhouse.

Sydney McCaslin dished out 13 assists, McKenna Pearson contributed eight digs, and Krista Loos thumped four aces for Sterling (2-0).


Milledgeville def. Fulton 25-21, 25-23: Emily Geison's four kills, three digs, two blocks, and two aces led the Missiles past the Steamers at Milledgeville.

Kayleigh Leddy had four kills and two aces, while Haley McAuliffe distributed 10 assists for the Missiles.

Chelsea Lesniewski led Fulton (0-1) with seven digs, six kills, and four aces. Kylie Kennedy added 12 digs and three kills.


Oregon def. Forreston 25-22, 21-25, 27-25: The Hawks edged the Cardinals in three sets at Forreston.


Girls tennis

Sterling 5, Rochelle 0: The Warriors did not drop a set in the sweep at Rochelle.

Hannah Jakobs and Gabi Trujillo were Sterling's singles winners. The Warriors' winning doubles tandems were Emily Parsons and Callie Sinn, Brooke and Molly Hendricks, and Erin Ansusinha and Michelle Nickrent.


Dixon 5, Rock Island 4: Kaitlyn Williams earned a three-set singles win and teamed with Maribeth Johnson for a three-set doubles win to help the Duchesses edge the Rocks in Rock Island.

Alyssa Diehl and Courtney Tressel were also singles winners for Dixon (2-0), which also got a doubles win from Hayley Kent and Jessica Van Oosten.


Newman 5, Geneseo 4: Mary Alice Oswalt and Anne Vits overcame first-set losses to win in singles, then teamed for a doubles win to lead the Comets at Geneseo.

Mackenzie Sterk was also a singles winner for Newman (1-1) at No. 6. Christina Long and Taryn McKenna got the Comets a victory at No. 2 doubles.
