STERLING – Roger Francis Hayenga, 75, of Sterling, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at his home. He worked in the printing industry for 40 years, including Wayside Press in Mendota for many years and Rochelle Printing, where he retired in 2001.

Roger was born June 6, 1937, in Rockford, the son of Harry L. and Leona C. (Dirksen) Hayenga. He married Mary Lynn Smith on March 26, 1960.

Roger was good at repairing machines and small appliances. He also enjoyed carpentry and helping family with home projects. During his retirement, he refurbished antique tools, fans and small farm implements. He sold them at area flea markets. Roger delighted in sharing funny stories, jokes, and his words of wisdom with his grandchildren.
