Girls roundup: Duchesses' tennis nets win

Dixon volleyball falls short; Storm sweep past Hall

The Dixon girls tennis team opened its season with a 4-1 victory over Mendota on Tuesday at the Emma Hubbs Tennis Courts.

Hayley Kent and Jessica Van Oosten won singles matches for the Duchesses. Alyssa Diehl and Courtney Tressel won at No. 1 doubles, as did the No. 2 team of Kaitlyn Williams and Maribeth Johnson.

Volleyball

Princeton def. Dixon 22-25, 25-23, 25-21: The Duchesses won the first game before faltering in a loss to the Tigers in Princeton.

Amy Rotella had seven kills and Caitlin Rozek six to lead the Dixon hitters in their season opener.

Rachel Musser contributed six points, five digs, three aces, and two kills for the Duchesses.


Bureau Valley def. Hall 25-19, 25-13: Lindsey Hoffert piled up eight points, four aces, and two kills to lead the Storm past the Red Devils at Manlius.

Danae Ross contribued eight points, two kills and two aces, while Brandi DeWaele had a team-high three kills for BV in its season-opening victory.
