POLO – An Indiana couple was injured Saturday when they were thrown from their three-wheeled motorcycle after rear-ending their companions' motorcycle at the intersection of Milledgeville and Freeport roads.

Driver Billy L. Long, 67, of Kokomo, was in serious condition at Rockford Memorial Hospital Monday. His wife, Dorris, 57, was in good condition at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Ogle County sheriff's deputies were called to the crash about 8:43 p.m.

Both motorcycles were eastbound on Milledgeville Road when they approached the stop sign at the intersection with Freeport Road.

Long was unable to stop in time and hit the motorcycle, which had stopped at the stop sign. Long's motorcycle rolled and threw the couple, deputies said.

Fred Ford, 50, and his wife, Joan, 53, of Frankfort, Ind., were not injured.

No citations had been issued as of Monday.

Ogle County Chief Deputy Mike Schabacker said the four were coming from a three-wheeled motorcycle rally in Carroll County.

No helmets were worn, he added.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
