Treasurer's office at Bureau fair to help people claim lost money

PRINCETON – State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is encouraging Bureau County residents to stop by his I-Cash table at the Bureau County Fair from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Saturday, Aug. 25, to see if the state is holding any money or unclaimed property to which they are entitled.

In fact, 9,828 owners in Bureau County have $1,598,952 in unclaimed property, Rutherford said in a news release.

The recent rebranding and marketing campaign has dramatically increased the number of searches on the I-Cash (formerly Cash Dash) website and the number of claims filed, the release said.

The Unclaimed Property Division has $1.5 billion in cash, plus contents from Illinois safe deposit boxes that have been inactive for at least 5 years.

Information on who has unclaimed property is available at 217-785-6998, www.treasurer.il.gov or info@icash.illinois.gov.
