Doris C. Hanson-Currens

MINNEAPOLIS – Doris C. Hanson-Currens, 96, of Minneapolis, formerly of Dixon, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Mount Olivet Home in Minneapolis. She was a social worker for Nachusa Lutheran Home, Dixon public schools and Lee County prior to retiring.


Doris was born July 29, 1916, in Sand Creek, Wis., the daughter of Julius and Hilda (Dahl) Hanson. She married Edwin L. Currens on Nov. 27, 1964, in Minneapolis. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1995. Doris was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

Survivors include three stepchildren, Thomas (Elaine) Currens of Columbus, Ind., Kathleen (Thomas) Finch of Butte, Mont., and Janet Franklin of Morgan Hill, Calif.; nine beloved grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; and five brothers and sisters.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Nachusa, with the Rev. Brant Clements, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Emmert Cemetery in Nachusa. Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.

A memorial has been established to Lutheran World Relief or the donor’s choice.
