Aussie blues guitarist offering class

STERLING – Registration is due by Monday for a free guitar master class with Australian blues rock guitarist Gerry Joe Weise.

The class will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at Woodlawn Arts Academy, 3807 Woodlawn Road, as part of Weise's 10th U.S. tour. Seating is limited; call 815-626-4278 to sign up.

Weise has performed throughout the world with legendary artists Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Buddy Guy and Noel Redding, among others, and was named number 1 on the Top Electric Blues charts in Australia.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
