SPRING VALLEY — The cause of the death for a Spring Valley teen who died Wednesday during football practice appears to be of natural causes, according to Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.

Daniel Lule, 17, collapsed about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday on the Hall High School practice field about 20 minutes into an afternoon football practice during a non-contact agility drill. Lule was taken to St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley, where he was pronounced dead at about 1:37 p.m.

On Friday morning, Wamhoff said the cause of Lule's death is most certainly of natural causes. There is no indications at all that the death was a suicide,a homicide or caused by an accident. An autopsy was to be performed later that day.

Results of Friday's autopsy and toxicology reports could take six to eight weeks to receive back, Wamohff said. At this time, there is no inquest scheduled.

The Spring Valley and Hall High School community has gathered together to remember Daniel and to help each other through the grief process.

As news of Lule's death became known throughout the community, Hall High School Superintendent Mike Struna announced the school would bring grief counselors Thursday and Friday to the school "to help students, parents and friends deal with their thoughts and feelings associated with the loss of Daniel."

The following statement was released Thursday by the school:

"The Hall High School community suffered a tragic loss on Aug. 8 when Red Devil student and football player Daniel Lule died. It is a very sad day for Hall High School. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Hall High School community go out to the Lule family. Daniel was a wonderful young man who was a Red Devil through and through. He will be greatly missed by the entire Hall High School family, especially his friends and teammates. Please keep the Lule family in your thoughts and prayers."

At 6 p.m. Friday, the Spring Valley/Hall High School community again banded together, this time for a community walk from the JFK school to the Lule family home. The group brought flowers and gifts to the family to show their support and to remember Daniel.
