DIXON – Gertrude Childers, 96, of Dixon, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at Heritage Square in Dixon. She was an assistant cashier at Montgomery Ward from 1937 to 1941 and then worked at Cook’s Flower Shop in Dixon prior to her retirement.

Gertrude was born July 6, 1916, in Dixon, the daughter of George Harry and Gertrude (Sheller) Raffenberger. She married Virgil R. Childers on June 8, 1940, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2006.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dixon and the Mother’s Study Club of Dixon. Gertrude was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. The family is very grateful for the loving care that she received while living at Heritage Square.
