Synthetic drug bust made
ROCK FALLS – Police hauled boxes and boxes of glass smoking pipes and synthetic drugs they suspect are similar to the now-banned K2 out of a Rock Falls secondhand store Wednesday morning.
The bust at Checkers, a former gas station at 1116 First Ave., comes a little more than a week after a new law took effect that defines those products as containing a controlled substance not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and therefore illegal to sell.
The previous law banned the sale of specific products, but “the chemical breakdown of these drugs is constantly changing, so that it’s no longer an illegal substance,” Rock Falls Police Chief Mike Kuelper said. “[The new law] is broader, and let us take the action we wanted.”
