ioTheater, comic at Post House

DIXON – The Post House Ballroom will kick off the Mumford & Sons weekend with a two-act adults-only comedy show Aug. 17 by the acclaimed iO Theater of Chicago and stand-up comic Amy Eisenberg, an Amboy native.

Doors open at 8, and the evening begins at 9 p.m. The iO will present “The Deltones” in an improvised musical, using ideas generated by audience suggestion. After a short break, iO will be back to present a short Improv session with audience members.

Eisenberg, who also has performed at Second City and Zanies Comedy Club, hits the stage at 11 p.m. Find her on YouTube or go to iknowamy.com/amy-who/ to get a taste of her raw urban comedy.

Full bar service will be available, and wristbands will allow patrons to come and go as they please, so they can enjoy all the entertainment downtown the night before Saturday’s big concert.

Dixon native Charna Halpern is co-founder of the iO Theater in Chicago and the daughter of Jack and Iris Halpern, who own McDonald’s restaurants in Dixon, Sterling and Oregon.

She has brought her renowned comedy group back to her hometown several times for benefits and other appearances. Among its famous alumni are Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Andy Richter, Tim Meadows and Andy Dick, the latter of whom Halpern brought to town in a fundraiser for wounded Dixon Marine Lance Cpl. Adam Devine.

Tickets are $18 at Dixon Senior Center or at the door, both at 100 W. Second St.
