Attend workday at grasslands
On Saturday morning, August 18, a prairie restoration “workday” will be held at the Rolling Thunder Prairie Unit of Nachusa Grasslands. These workdays sometimes are more like long nature hikes with hands-on activities. We will identify plants for you.
On this date, we will continue to remove invasive Queen Anne’s Lace and plant the disturbed areas with seeds of native wildflowers and grasses. We plan to do more seed collecting – a very educational experience for those who want to learn the plants of the Illinois prairie.
Meet at the Steward’s Barn at 8772 South Lowden Road in rural Franklin Grove, north of Naylor Road and south of Stone Barn Road at 9 a.m. Wear sturdy shoes and long pants. Bring gloves and scissors, but don’t stay away if you forget. We have extras.
