GRAND DETOUR – Making things from iron or steel is more than a hobby for Bob Kester – it’s in his blood.
Kester’s great-great grandfather, John Ward Cole, was the blacksmith in Kester’s hometown of Crete many years ago.
About 3 years ago, Kester took up the craft. Sunday, he set out to make his wife, Carol, a triangle-shaped dinner bell, something he had made her before. The first bell, though, was about the size of her palm. This time, he wanted to go bigger.
