Music to her ears, feet: Lauff to perform anthem at national meet

Barb Lauff plans on making some sweet music before and during the USA Track and Field National Outdoor Masters Championships on Thursday in Lisle.

Lauff, the Orchestra Director for Sterling Public Schools, will perform the national anthem before the event, then compete in the women’s 40-44 division 5,000-meter race on the track at Benedictine University.

Lauff performed the anthem at the USATF Indoor Championships this past February in Sterling. Her rendition featuring her specialty, the oboe, caught the attention of one of the organizers of the USATF Illinois Outdoor Championships, so she performed the anthem there on June 22 in Kankakee.
