Blaze heavily damages First Avenue home
STERLING – Seven-year-old Alex asked his mother if he could go to a friend’s house early Monday evening. She let him.
When he went outside, he noticed smoke coming from their house at 1012 First Ave. He ran back in to tell his mom, Rachel Rico, who was sitting on a couch.
She fled with Alex and her 2-month-old, Aliyah. They got out safely. As they did, she said, they heard a sound like an explosion.
