Sauk Valley Sports Family Series: The Detweilers

For more than a half-century, if there was a golf or bowling tournament held in Dixon, chances are a Detweiler was in the middle of it. Ken Detweiler Sr. and his wife, Pearl, were each golfing and bowling enthusiasts.

They were members at Dixon Country Club and Plum Hollow Golf Course to feed their golf habit, and they owned and operated Dixon Recreation, an 8-lane bowling alley that was a hub of activity.

Each of those facilities served as playgrounds for their four sons: Ken Jr., Ed, Dave and Don. The four boys excelled in golf and bowling, as well as other sports.
