WALNUT – A Walnut man was killed around 1 a.m. Saturday after he lost control of his vehicle on the Wyanet Walnut Blacktop and hit a utility pole.

Gary Carl, 41, of Walnut, was a mile north of 1745 N. Ave. in rural Wyanet when he failed to negotiate a T intersection, lost control and hit the pole, landing in a ditch, Bureau County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Spiegel said Sunday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, Spiegel said.

He did not know if Carl was wearing a seat belt or if speed or alcohol were factors, Spiegel said.

Garland Funeral Home in Walnut (www.garlandfuneralhome.com) is handling arrangements.

Yes. Sterling and Dixon have had bans for years. It’s time for Rock Falls to impose a ban.
No. It would be too great a burden for homeowners to dispose of fallen leaves in other ways.
