Sgt. First Class Jeremy Gonzalez

LAWTON, Okla. – Jeremy R. Gonzalez, 38, of Lawton, Okla., formerly of Manlius, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at his home.

Jeremy was born July 10, 1973, in Sterling. He graduated from Manlius High School in 1991. Immediately following high school, he began his lifelong military career with the Illinois National Guard, later to transfer to the Army. He served tours of duty in Germany, Hawaii, Korea, California, Texas and Oklahoma. He also served our country in Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2005, when he earned the Bronze Star.

Jeremy is survived by his wife, Jude LaBruno-Gonzalez, and two daughters, Jaden Gonzalez and Jessa Gonzalez, all of Lawton; his parents, Julie and Garry Hagerman of Sheffield and Ray Gonzalez and Michelle Baker of Nelson; and his maternal grandmother, Ruth Woodring of Sterling. Also surviving are his sisters, Rachel Hagerman of Kewanee, Tanya Hagerman Cole of Sheffield, Steffanie Hagerman of Peoria and Shauna Gonzalez of Sterling; his brothers, Steven (Heather) Gonzalez and Shay Gonzalez, both of Rock Falls; six nieces; and seven nephews.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
