Marit June Finkle

DeKALB – Marit June Finkle, 85, of DeKalb, formerly of Kirkland and Sterling, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.

She was born April 17, 1927, in Sterling, the daughter of Harvey P. and Blossom (Judd) Riser. She married her high school sweetheart, David J. Finkle, on June 21, 1944. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Kirkland.

She is survived by her children, David (Lori) Finkle of Kirkland, Lisa Ann Rakey of Springfield and Doug Finkle of Kirkland; six grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
