CGH to offer therapy dog program; volunteers needed
STERLING – When Janel Yordy first got Spike, she had no idea the then-5-month-old Shih-poo would become a certified therapy dog.
Yordy, 54, of Sterling, got Spike from a kennel in the state of Ohio. The Shih-Tzu-poodle mix, who turns 4 next month, has been a certified therapy dog about 16 months now.
Since then, he and Yordy have been visiting patients at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford twice a month, providing them with the warmth and comfort of a friendly, furry visitor and helping them heal.
