Straight-line winds take down trees, damage roofs in Dixon
DIXON – The Dixon Correctional Center still was on partial lockdown Sunday as crews scramble to fix damaged roofs caused by a severe storm that swept through Lee and Ogle counties Friday night.
The storm, which featured straight-line winds of up to 74 mph in spots, downed trees and wires and knocked out power to about 7,800 Lee and Ogle customers, ComEd and National Weather Service spokesmen said.
ComEd restored power to the last 30 customers Sunday afternoon. The majority had their power restored the evening before. Power was back on at the prison by 7 p.m., said Paul Callighan, ComEd’s external affairs manager.
