MOUNT MORRIS – Philip Patrick Egan, 72, of Mount Morris, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, in Rockford Memorial Hospital.

Phil was born July 25, 1939, in Mount Morris, the son of George and Eva (Foley) Egan. Phil married Kay Hovis on Oct. 17, 1959, in Oregon. He was employed at Kable Printing Co. for 44 years, retiring in 2001.

Phil is survived by his wife; son, Mike Egan of Mount Morris; daughter, Lynda (Ron) Alden of Rockford; sisters, Margie Johnson of Oregon, Dolores Goley of Byron, and Patsy (Ed Tuttle) Franz of Lodi, Wis.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill “Rusty” Egan; and sisters, Maryalice Fletcher and Ellen Toms.

Visitation begins at 10 a.m., and the funeral at 11 a.m., Tuesday at Finch Funeral Home, 405 E. Hitt St., Mount Morris, with the Rev. Thomas Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery, Mount Morris.

In lieu of flowers, send memorials to Ogle County Hospice.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
