Minnie Toben
TUCSON, Ariz. – Minnie Von Holten-Toben, 91, of Tucson, Ariz., fell asleep in Jesus on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at LaRosa Skilled Care Facility in Tucson, two months after surgery.
She was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Rock Falls, the daughter of Carl and Beulah (Williford) Von Holten. Minnie was married to William Toben on April 4, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. The day after their wedding, Minnie and Bill moved to Tucson, where she lived for 70 years. Bill passed away in 1980. Minnie and Bill had four children, William (Lisa) of Tucson, Marsha (Silas) Krueger of Carlsbad, Calif., Ruth (Philip) Lasurdo of Batavia and John (Gayle) of Holland, Mich. Minnie was a homemaker and stay-at-home mother until her youngest child entered high school. She then worked at Bullard’s, a hardware store and gift shop, for 24 years. Later, she became a volunteer at Northwest Hospital for 10 years. She also was very active in her church, Redeemer Lutheran Church in Tucson, where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the women’s group and did visitations. Minnie was a woman of steadfast, Christian faith who was known for her cheerful spirit. She inspired us all with her kindness and non-judgmental attitude, and she touched many hearts with her gentle, loving way.
Minnie is survived by her four children and their spouses, seven grandchildren and their spouses, and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Ray (Bernice), Elmer, Edward, Roland (Beverly), and Merle (Nita) Von Holten; sisters, Arlene (Bud) Dietz and Lois Von Holten-Fulfs; and sister-in-law, Phyllis (David) Bressler. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins who remember Minnie sending cards and letters to them on all special occasions.
