Arturo M. Mendoza

ROCK FALLS – Arturo M. Mendoza, 63, of Rock Falls, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. He was a knife sharpener at Rochelle Foods for 13 years, retiring in 2009.

Arturo was born Jan. 20, 1949, in El Paso, Texas, the son of Pablo and Maria Louisa (Contreras) Mendoza. He married Amy Pillado on Feb. 26, 1979, in Rockford. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Amy of Rock Falls; his sons, Arturo P. Mendoza of Silvis and SSG Mark (Sara) Mendoza of DeKalb; a stepson, Edward (Hilda) Garcia of Belvidere; sisters, Alicia (Carlos) Bocanegra of El Paso, Edna (Fred) Martinez of San Antonio and Bertha (Polo) Reyes of El Paso; brothers, Rudy (Lupe) Mendoza of California, Louis (Eva) Mendoza of El Paso and Bobby (Yolie) Mendoza of California; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a celebration of his life at 10 a.m., Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory in Rock Falls, with Deacon Larry Zitkus, officiating.

A memorial has been established.
