1 dies in plane crash in Ogle County
Pilot reported smoke in cockpit
MONROE CENTER – A pilot killed Tuesday morning apparently was trying to make an emergency landing when his single-engine airplane crashed in a cornfield in northeastern Ogle County.
Sheriff Michael Harn did not release the victim’s name Tuesday. Federal Aviation Administration records show the Lancair 235M was registered to Thomas F. Plodzien, 77, of Monee.
Harn said the pilot was the only person on board.
