Finally, fish kill blame assessed
The Illinois attorney general’s office finally concluded, 3 years after the fact, what many in the Sauk Valley already had – that the June 2009 fish kill in the Rock River was caused by a Canadian National derailment, fire, and massive ethanol spill in Rockford.
Many signs pointed to that conclusion.
n The timing. The spill occurred June 19, and 2 days later, Sauk Valley residents saw hundreds if not thousands of dead fish; the total count was estimated at 72,000.
