2012 Reagan Run: Day before just as important as race

In less than 2 weeks, another Reagan Run 5K will be upon us. Lace up your shoes and join me as I share some of my personal experience and what I’ve learned along the way for how to handle the day before the race. That’s the time to evaluate the competition ... so to speak.

Who is your biggest competition? It should be no surprise if your answer is “yourself.” Perhaps this is your first race and your goal is to finish. Maybe you ran last year and want to beat your time. Try to follow some of the tips below to get a leg up on your “toughest competitor.”

“Do nothing extra” is a good mantra. Get your rest. By that, I mean sleep! I’m guessing that the majority will be working that Friday, but do nothing else. You’re going to need all the extra energy for race day.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
