Jobless rates continue to drop
But labor forces have dipped a bit in past year
STERLING – Unemployment dropped again in May in four Sauk Valley counties while remaining steady in another, according to statistics released Thursday.
Whiteside County’s unemployment rate dipped from 8.7 percent in April to 8.4 percent in May, according to data from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The county’s rate also was lower than the 8.5 percent rate in May 2011.
The county’s rate was the lowest since December 2008.
