A new Link to farmers markets
Dixon among first to apply for state grant
DIXON – People with low incomes might find it easier to buy fresh corn and rhubarb in the Sauk Valley soon.
The Dixon Park District, which operates the Dixon Farmers Market, already has applied for a recently announced grant intended to help farmers markets accept Illinois Link cards, which access Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
Debra Carey, executive director of the Dixon Park District, said she has been trying for 5 years to implement a method of accepting federal SNAP benefits at the farmers market.
