Sterling, Rock Falls mix well to spur Gazette girls past Telegraph in Classic

DIXON – After spending the last
4 years as arch rivals, Aleena Hammelman and Cheyenne Burnett showed their stuff as teammates Thursday night – and man, was it something to see.

Sterling’s Hammelman had a double-double and stuffed the stat sheet, Rock Falls’ Burnett added 18 points and four steals, and both played key roles in decisive runs to lead the Gazette to a 64-47 victory over the Telegraph at the Sauk Valley Media All-Star Classic in the Sauk Valley Community College gymnasium.

“We didn’t really plan it that way or ask for us all to be out there together,” Hammelman said of the three Golden Warriors and two Rockets. “But we were hoping we could, and it turned out to be a really fun.”
