Former playing great has become coaching great, too
She’s tied for the most pitching wins in Illinois High School Association history. Her name dots the IHSA records books. But, this year Sarah (Martz) Spears had a softball first.
Spears, who won 103 games from 1997-2000 at Eastland High School, guided Milledgeville to its first state tournament appearance. The Missiles took third place in Class 1A.
Softball is a family affair for Spears, who is assisted by her father, Tom, and her aunt, Jody Engelkens.
