Michael E. Magon

TEMECULA, Calif. – Michael E. Magon, 44, of Temecula, Calif., died Sunday, June 10, 2012, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Michael was born Feb. 19, 1968, in Sterling, the son of John and Bonnie (Minnich) Magon. He married Crystal S. Kuhns on July 5, 1997, in Oceanside, Calif. He served in the Marine Corps, obtaining rank of master sergeant, and retired after 20 years of service in 2006. He was honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal x4, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal x6, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon x6, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation x2 and the Meritorious Service Medal x2.

He is survived by his wife, Crystal Magon of Temecula; a son, Nathen Magon of Temecula; mother and stepfather, Bonnie (Francisco) Lopez of Rock Falls; four sisters, Melissa (Glen) Wicks of Rock Falls, Rhonda Lawyer of Clarksville, Tenn., Michelle (Dennis) Hudson of Dixon, and Melanie (Paul) LeBlanc of Comfort, Texas; two brothers, John Magon of Madison, Wis., and Carlos Garcia of Rock Falls; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Sacunas of Harrisburg, Pa., and Charlene Cain of Mount Morris; and a brother-in-law, Christian Kuhns of Altoona, Pa.

Wise saw collapse in support

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
