Grateful for event support
The Armed Forces Day Committee of Whiteside County would like to thank the community for its support in recognizing the service and sacrifice that military personnel, past and present, have given to our nation.
An official ceremony was the morning of May 19 at the Veterans Memorial Park in Rock Falls.
Very special appreciation goes out to the many volunteers who participated in the program: the Civil Air Patrol, whose members explained the proper and meaningful way to fold the American flag; the Patriot Guard, who set up the flag line; Marine Corps League; Sterling American Legion; Rock Falls American Legion; Rock Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars; Morrison Veterans of Foreign Wars; and Rock Falls High School Band.
Thanks also goes to Rock Falls Band Boosters, who provided concessions; Rolling Thunder, officially known as the 1644th unit of the National Guard; Merrill School for providing parking; Coloma Park District for its cooperation in preparing the site for this event; KWQC-TV for its television coverage; Sauk Valley Media for its newspaper coverage; and very special thanks to Freedom Bank for donating the awards to the students who read their winning essays, and to the veterans who won plaques as representatives of each branch of service.
Most of all, we salute the public for showing respect and gratitude to our military personnel. Our nation’s future is built on its past.
Let us continue to pledge our allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Note to readers – Kevin Melberg is chairman of the committee.
