Dash of Grace: Sweet apple desserts on Father's Day

I asked all the fathers I ran into this week (3, if I counted right), what special sweet treat they would like to see on the table (or a breakfast tray) Sunday. I was sure it would be chocolate chip cookies, hands down. I was wrong. It was apple pie – by a landslide. Chocolate chip cookies came in second.

We all know how to make a fresh apple pie, and I would not try to compete with all the mothers and grandmothers (and a few dads) who have preserved and protected the family apple pie secret over the years. Some have even lied about the ingredients at times, when it was absolutely necessary.

We are going to try some apple pastries today. These apple desserts are easy to make and can be made by the kids.
