ROCK FALLS – A Rock Falls man was under the influence of alcohol when he pushed his way into an elderly woman's home early Thursday, demanded money, and then raped her, according to police.

Bond will be set today for David J. Reese, 26, who is charged with home invasion, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated robbery.

The first two charges are Class X felonies, punishable by 6 to 30 years in prison.

About 6:06 a.m. Thursday, Rock Falls police received a hang-up 911 call from an apartment in the 400 block of Garden Circle.

When officers arrived, a woman in her 60s ran out of her duplex and yelled that there was a man inside who was armed, according to police.

Officers then spotted a man, who later was identified as Reese, running from the building. Officers chased him four blocks before arresting him in the 100 block of West 10th Street, according to police.

Reese had a knife in his hand, according to police.

The woman was taken to CGH Medical Center for treatment. Reese, who had cut his hands from scaling a fence while running away from police, also was taken to CGH.

He later was taken to the Whiteside County Jail.

Chief Mike Kuelper says it appears Reese knocked on the woman's door to ask her a question and pushed his way inside when she opened her door.

Armed with the knife, Reese told the woman to give him cash from her purse before raping her, Kuelper said.

Kuelper said Reese had been drinking before the incident, but said he didn't know whether he was drunk.

Reese and the woman did not know each other, Kuelper said. The woman lives alone, he said.

Kuelper said he did not know why Reese attacked the woman or what he was doing prior to that.

Reese has multiple convictions for burglary, aggravated battery, theft and other offenses dating back to 2003.

Kuelper encourages residents to keep doors locked. If someone knocks on the door, talk to them through a locked door. If you are nervous or unsure of the situation, call police at 815-622-1140, he said.
