East Coloma students recognized by Legion

ROCK FALLS – Graduating eighth-grade students at East Coloma Elementary School were recognized during their promotional ceremony May 24.

Alexis Wilson and Noah Junis received the American Legion Award. Honorable mention winners were Madilyn Latta and Breu Knox.

Junis also received awards for excellence in math, language arts, reading, physical education and social studies. Wilson received honorable mention for excellence in math. Sydnie Nailor received an award for excellence in physical education and an honorable mention for excellence in reading.

Last week, Sterling Alderwoman Amy Viering attended her last meeting as a city official. She gave the usual praise one hears at such departures. But one compliment stuck out. At the end of her speech, she turned to City Administrator Scott Shumard and said, "You're awesome."
