Urbana boy, 3, dead of gunshot to head

URBANA (AP) — The Champaign County Coroner says an autopsy confirms a 3-year-old Urbana boy died of a gunshot wound to the head in what investigators believe was an accident.

Coroner Duane Northrup said Thursday that Mekhi Woods died Wednesday night at Carle Foundation Hospital. The autopsy was performed Thursday.

Authorities tell The (Champaign) News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/JhXVtr ) the child's 14-year-old uncle is being held at the Champaign County Juvenile Detention Center. Prosecutors will decide whether to charge him with a crime.
