Gun club open house set for May 5-6

The Tri-County Gun Club will host an open house from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at 3441 S. Brookville Road, Polo.

The event is open to the public, and all the ranges will be open. Firearms and ammunition will be available. For more details, call Dale Hayen at 815-625-7916.

The Amboy girls basketball camp will take place May 29-June 1 and June 4-8 at the high school.

Pitch, hit and run event is May 5

The Coloma Township Park District will hold the 14th annual Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run competition Saturday at Wallingford Park in Rock Falls.

Entry forms are available at the park district’s administrative office, 508 E. 11th Street, Rock Falls. Registration is $1. For more information, call 815-625-0272.

NEWARK, N.J. – Alexei Ponikarovsky scored on his own rebound with 2:39 left in overtime and the New Jersey Devils beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 to take a 2-1 lead in an Eastern Conference semifinal series.


COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Coastal Carolina transfer Illinois-bound

Forward transfer Sam McLaurin committed to the University of Illinois.

The 6-foot-8 Florida native graduates from Coastal Carolina this spring and would become immediately eligible to play for the Illini as a graduate student. He led the Chanti-cleers with 7.5 rebounds per game last season, while adding 10 points per game.


NFL

Boston U. asks to study Seau’s brain

Junior Seau’s brain has been requested by Boston University’s Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy.

Seau died of a gunshot wound to the chest Wednesday, and his death is being investigated as a suicide. The center conducted a similar study on former Chicago Bears safety Dave Duerson, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest last year.
