Eldena soldier dealing with injuries
Amboy grad can't bear weight on right leg
DIXON – Army Spc. Michael Shoemaker Jr. of Lee County, injured in an explosion March 18, is having a slow recovery.
He remains at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and may move to a rehabilitation facility in a few weeks, his sister, Jenny Karlson, said Thursday.
Shoemaker, a 23-year-old Amboy High School graduate, suffered severe injuries to his right arm and both legs. He also had a brain injury; doctors had to remove metal debris from his head.
