Softball roundup: Dixon drops close one to L-P

Erin Smith allowed one earned run in seven innings for Dixon in a 3-1 home loss to
LaSalle-Peru on Tuesday at Reynolds Field.

Smith allowed four hits and walked one in seven innings.

Brooke Bailey and Beccah Jones each had two hits for Dixon (9-16, 0-7 NIB-12 West). Bailey had the lone RBI.

Stillman Valley 2, Milledgeville 1: The Missiles’ Jolee Parks and the Cardinals’ Payton Abbott hooked up in a pitchers’ duel, with Abbott and company coming out on top in the nonference clash at Milledgeville.

Abbott fired a three-hitter, striking out 11. Parks hurled five-hit ball over six innings before Emily Bush came on for the final inning.

Brandie Gelwicks tripled and Courtney Swalve had Milledgeville’s lone RBI.

AFC 13, Aquin 12: Lexie James scored the winning run on a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, as the Raiders eked out an NUIC East win in Ashton.

AFC (7-11, 3-8) built an 8-1 lead, only to see Aquin pull even at 12-all with a four-run sixth. Sarah Matson had four hits and two RBIs, James had three hits and an RBI, and Kortney Echelbarger drove in three runs for AFC.

Forreston-Polo 11, South Beloit 0, 5 inn.: The Cardinals sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the first inning in a rout of the SoBos in German Valley.

Ketarah DeVries had two hits and three RBIs for Forreston-Polo (23-5, 10-0 NUIC East). DeVries also earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits while striking out nine. Hailey Ingram and Meg Cullor both had two hits and two RBIs.

Eastland swept in Lena: The Cougars couldn’t overcome the Panthers’ combination of steady hitting and fielding and lost a pair of NUIC West games, 11-1 in five innings and 13-5 in seven.

Lena-Winslow jumped out to a 9-0 lead through three innings in the opener. Ashley Nepean took the loss in that game for Eastland (13-12, 5-5).

The Panthers again pounced early on to take a 7-0 lead through the top of the fourth in the second game, in which Haley Miller took the loss. Le-Win outhit Eastland 28-10 altogether and didn’t commit an error.
