Erie students win writing contest

MOLINE – Riley Packer of Erie Elementary School won first place in the second-grade category in WQPT’s annual PBS Kids Go Writers Contest.

There were 328 story entries from students in kindergarten through third grade. Educators and sponsors of the contest selected four winners from each grade. The winners and their families will be honored and awarded prizes at 3 p.m. May 20 at Deere-Wiman House.

All of the entries will be returned with a certificate from WQPT/PBS for taking part.

Sponsors for the contest were Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House, Family Museum, Figge Art Museum, Midwest Writing Center and WQPT, Quad Cities PBS.

Winning stories will be on display from May 20-31 at Butterworth Center, 1105 Eighth St.; from June 5-15 at Figge Art Museum, 225 W. Second St., Davenport, Iowa.; and from June 18-29 at Family Museum, 2900 Learning Campus Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa.
