ELDENA – An Amboy High School graduate, now a soldier in Afghanistan, is in a drug-induced coma after suffering severe head injuries in an explosion, his family said Sunday.
Army Spc. Michael E. Shoemaker Jr., 23, of Eldena, between Amboy and Dixon, was loading an ammunition truck in Kandahar Province on Thursday when the explosion happened, his mother, Sandra Shoemaker, said.
He suffered a severe brain injury, and his right arm and leg were hurt, his family said.
