STERLING – Robert A. Hicks, 47, of Sterling, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at his home. He was self-employed as a contractor.

He was born March 12, 1965, in Sterling, the son of Curry and Anna (Aldridge) Hicks. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing the guitar, singing and grilling.

Surviving are his parents, Curry and Anna Hicks of Sterling; his son, Dustin (Sarah Akers) Hicks of Fulton; stepchildren, Vanessa Echartea of Rock Falls and Joseph Echartea of Dixon; his sisters, Veronica (Larry) Piper of Princeton and Terol (Marty) McCarty of Rock Falls; his grandmother, Lucille Hicks of Leeds, Ala.; a grandchild; special friend, Rhonda Simmons of Rock Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Hicks; and his grandparents.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Sheley, pastor of Oneighty Church of Sterling, officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling.

A memorial has been established.
