New Orleans trip planned for June

MOUNT MORRIS – A trip to New Orleans, organized by the Mount Morris Senior Center, will be June 3-9.

The 6-night trip will include lodging and 10 meals. Among the highlights will be a tour of a Louisiana plantation, a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi River, a visit to the National World War II Museum and a guided tour of New Orleans.

The motorcoach will leave from the former Rahn Elementary School, 405 S. Fletcher Ave. Times will be announced.

The cost is $579 per person for double occupancy and $789 for single occupancy. Final payments are due by the end of March.

On pensions, Bivins and GOP far apart

Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon, joined with many of his fellow Senate Republicans this week to reject a pension bill sponsored by Democratic Senate President John Cullerton of Chicago. The measure passed 40-16. Bivins had a different reason for his no vote.
