Oregon man gets 2 years for child pornography

Amos D. Whitmer

DIXON – An Oregon man accused of having a large collection of child pornography at homes in two counties was sentenced Wednesday in Lee County Court to 2 years in prison for child pornography.

In exchange for his guilty plea, Lee County Assistant State’s Attorney Jon Watson dropped an additional child pornography.

Amos D. Whitmer, 40, also is charged with five counts of child pornography in Ogle County. He will be in court there Friday.

An employee at an Ashton computer repair shop called the Lee County Sheriff’s Department in April after finding child pornography on a computer Whitmer brought in. A search of his apartment in Oregon, in Ogle County, on April 22 turned up multiple CDs and videos that contained child pornography, police said.

Some of the images had date stamps that corresponded with when Whitmer lived in Franklin Grove, which prompted the Lee County charges.

Judge Ron Jacobson presided; Lee County Public Defender Bob Thompson is Whitmer’s attorney.
