Sex offender takes too long to report cell, put on probation

DIXON – A two-time Dixon sex offender was sentenced Thursday to 30 months of probation for failing to give police his cellphone number in a timely fashion.

David A. Martinson, 44, was released Thursday from Lee County Jail, where he’s been since Jan. 5.

On Dec. 1, he was sentenced to 24 months probation after pleading guilty to possessing child pornography.

In September 2010, police received a tip that Martinson was having inappropriate contact with a 10-year-old boy. A search of his house turned up a safe with decade-old photos of nude boys, ages 7 to 11.

Martinson, who was convicted in 1986 of molesting a 3-year-old Ogle County girl, was not charged with any crime involving the boy.

In early January, Martinson told Dixon Police he’d had a new cellphone number for 3 weeks. By law, he must report the change within 3 days, something his probation officer had told him twice before, police said.
