Man charged with attempted murder

CLINTON (MCT) – A Clinton man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a weekend stabbing.

Michael E. Piantieri, 30, is facing charges of attempted murder, two counts of going armed with intent and aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing that occurred Saturday near Just Friends Tavern, 92 Main Ave.

Police said Fred Smith, of Clinton, received serious lacerations to his neck, head and back.

Piantieri is being held in the Clinton County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.

According to the Clinton County Jail staff, Piantieri’s next court appearance is 9 a.m. Friday.
