Police: 1 dead in Illinois shooting

EARLVILLE (AP) – Authorities in north-central Illinois say one person was fatally shot in what appears to be a home invasion in rural LaSalle County.

WLPO in LaSalle reports that two men allegedly entered a rural residence near Earlville just before 3 a.m. Sunday. One of the men was allegedly shot by the homeowner and later pronounced dead at Mendota Community Hospital.

Shortly after authorities arrested the second alleged intruder man after he fled.

The victim’s name has not been released pending notification of family.

The county coroner and Illinois State Police are investigating.
