JOHNSBURG (AP) — A northern Illinois man has died after falling through the ice on the pond where he was skating with his son.

Officials with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District say the man fell through the ice Sunday evening at the pond near Johnsburg, but his son managed to get to shore safely. Authorities identified him as 47-year-old Patrick Rorig of Johnsburg.

Rescue workers called to the scene found the man after searching for about 30 minutes. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Rorig is the second person to fall through ice and die this February in McHenry County.

Johnsburg is about 45 miles northwest of Chicago.
