DIXON – Joseph L. Blackburn, 80, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford. He owned and operated Joe’s Standard service station in Dixon from 1959 to 1965; and was employed by Amoco Oil in Rochelle for 30 years, retiring in January 1998.

He was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Marion Township in Lee County, the son of Joseph and Myra Emma (Mekeel) Blackburn. He attended St. Mary Catholic Grade School, and graduated from Dixon High School with the class of 1949. He served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Mearl Kissee Bellini on Dec. 5, 1985, in Dixon. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon and the Lyle Grobe and the Rhythm Ramblers band.

He is survived by his wife, Mearl; stepchildren, April (Ted) Parsons of Albuquerque, N.M., Susan (Marty) Meusel and Brian (Leann) Bellini, both of Dixon, Brad (Michelle) Bellini of Oregon and Jeff (Yepi) Bellini of Honolulu; seven grandchildren, Stacey, Travis, Melissa, Shawn, Scott, Alli and Jino; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth (Miriam) Blackburn of Dixon; and sisters, Betty Jane Pope of Polo and Joan Sheridan of Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lewis, David and William Blackburn; and sisters, Kathleen Smith, Mary Johnson, Ann Helfrich and Phyllis Cathey.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., Monday at Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Prayer service will be at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Gow officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Dixon combined veterans group, will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon.

A memorial fund has been established to the American Cancer Fund.
